5/8” Solid Maple Drawer Boxes with Dovetailed Joinery
All of our drawers half inch solid maple, making them sturdy, strong, and durable. We use only maple because it has superior hardness. It is one of the hardest varieties of wood, so it can take a beating and still retain its appearance and functionality over many years of service.
The dovetail joint is the strongest of all joints because it has a large gluing area, is interlocking, resists being pulled apart, looks attractive, and is stronger than the wood itself.
3/4” Thick Main Cabinet Box Construction
All cabinets start as boxes with doors and/or drawers, with the decorative features added. Most people will only ever see the face of the cabinet: the door style and of course the beautiful paint or stain finishes. But did you ever close a cabinet and think it felt “light” or “thin”? Maybe “flimsy”?
That is because many cabinets have only 1/4” – 3/8” sides. But that is not the case with Woodhaven Custom Cabinets. Our cabinet boxes are 3/4” thick. Our competitors may say “That’s overkill,” or “You don’t need that,” but you will never hear the words “light, thin, or flimsy” in the same sentence as “Woodhaven Custom Cabinets.”
Dado’ed, Glued, and Screwed
Our cabinet boxes also feature a construction technique not found on many other high end custom cabinets. Our boxes and frames are assembled using dado, glue, and screw joinery.
What exactly is dado, glue, and screw? Other cabinet manufacturers only butt the pieces together with staples and glue. At Woodhaven Custom Cabinets, we use stopped dado joinery, which means we cut slots that the joined pieces slide into, like a tongue and groove for frame construction. After gluing, we insert the frame pieces into each other and secure them with screws — not staples!
Our cabinets boxes will never distort and are designed to support the heaviest of counter tops that money can buy.
